ashley day 3 so i thought it waz kinda funny when Matt did his ABCs to be honest i think Attean is a crazy name i wonger what it means? this is what i foundWhat Does My Name Mean? Attean - The Meaning of Names

What does the name “Attean” mean? A name is much more than just a name: activities, for you have many.

treat, that you always are.

talent, hidden or not.

exotic, no lack of spirit here!

acquaintance, the many friends you know.

natural, the genuine side of you.

Out of 5,272,694 records in the U.S. Social Security Administration data, the name “Attean” was not present. You might want to use a short version of your first name or perhaps your nickname.

On the other hand, you simply have a name that no one else in America is using. For 101 years only your parents have thought of using your name. Shane day 9 Hi Mrs.F I agree with Tyler when he says how it is weird how he doesn’t understand your territory but the sign of the beaver marks the hunting grounds. I think that Matt has enough food because there is going to be four people who barely eat at all. Jordyn I think that Matt will eventually have a friend like Attean. I don’t think the title is right for the book because they barely even talked about the sign of the beaver. Tannner Day 9 I agree with Jordyn that it doesnt really matter if Ateen goes hunting because he did already show all of us that read the book that he is a skilled hunter. I think that Matt doesnt need Ateen at all because Ateen taught him how to hunt and he has a hunting dog that can tell him if theres a predadtor coming. I think the dog will be very helpful in these last few chapters. It is really weird when he is talking to the dog and he says it will rain because he is treating him like he can talk. I wpnder what hes gonna get for christmas, but I think its gonna be a hunting thing. Lindsay Day 9- I don't think a kid should be put through so much work like Matt. Even if he did it voluntarily. The food Matt's mom makes sounds disgusting! What does meager mean? It's on page 120, paragraph two. I was so used to all this talking and conversation, but now that Matt barely has any company there isn't any communication. It sorta made the chapters boring. It was so kind of Matt to do that for his family! I don't know one guy that would do such a nice thing! Jordyn made a good point that Attean should do the hunt because he killed the bear. One more day! Who can't wait for Summer?! Brock Day 9 I think Matt really misses his family especially his sister Sarah. I think Attean taught him a lot of ways to live in the wilderness and he feels calmer then at the beginning of the book. Idiom Sarah would laugh now see him rubbing away with an old clamshell like an Indian. Jordan asked do you think Matt will have any more friends like Attean. I think he will not have any more friends like Attean. I think it would be boring to live where Matt is. I would feel bad for Matt if his family did not come. Tyler Day 9 I think Matt is going to move with the Indians because maybe Ben killed his father. What do snowshoes do? Brock I think Attean was just saying goodbye in the last chapter. I disagree with Lindsay when she said that Matt did the right thing not going with the Indians.

Tyler Day 8 I agree with Shane that it would be hard to trust the people that killed your daughter. Lindsay, I disagree that the kids their age should not be playing that game. The only reason they were rough on him is because he wouldn't give them one of his items. Now that Attean is gone, I think Matt is going to be lonely. He will be all alone. Wasn't it weird how Attean didn't understand how men could own land but in the book it said the Sign of the Beaver marked their hunting grounds?
Jordyn Day 8 Lindsey asked a question about if it is a good idea for Attean to go hunting. I think it doesn’t really matter if he goes hunting because he showed us through this book that he can do a lot. He killed a huge bear, he makes things and he is very smart, I think Attean can probably handle all of it. I cant believe that Attean is leaving forever! Matt, will have absolutely no one to talk to or hunt with. Attean was the one that showed Matt how to hunt so good and other stuff like that. I wonder now if Matt is going to have a hard time by himself hunting, because Attean helped him with getting food most of the time. Do you think he will find any one else where he is or when all his family lives there? Do you think he will have any friends or friends like Attean?
Micahel Day 8 Shane i disagree that it is wierd that Attean talks to animals cause he is an indian and i think that it is not wierd for them. I think that Matt should've stayed with the indians cause they would take care of and prrovide more food for him. I dont think his will come back cause he was gone for a lot of time. It was so different back then cause a piece of sugar was a treat and that was like nothing to us now. Ashley Day 2 hi everyone! clearly Matt has made some progress because the book states "Gradually his spirits rose again. The July weather was perfect. The flies and mosquitoes were less bothersome. He began to count the days ahead instead of the ones the had notched. Two or three more sticks and his family would be there. The corn began to grow taller. The little green pumpkins were rounding out. He could make it a little longer." then it started to go all wrong. the book says "Matt had been fishing all morning. A good, clear day, the water still nippy at his ankles, the sun warm on his bare head. He had followed the creek a long way and had a lucky catch. He came whistling out of the woods, swinging the four speckled trout. He quieted down all of a sudden ( notice i put all in red because that is a word error) when he heard a crackling in the underbrush close by." thanks for reading good night and PEACE OUT Lindsay Day 8 - I have to agree with Saknis, maybe his father isn't coming back. Even if he might not he should at least try and look for him. I think it was good of Matt to decline the offer to go on the hunt. I don't feel it's safe for kids their age to be doing stuff like that. They could get badly hurt. The author makes a lot of errors. For example, she never indents the begining of every starting paragraph for a new chapter. I'm sad Matt won't see his only company again. I think each detail as you go on through the book becomes less and less like Hatchet. Jordyn, I think they thought he was a good kid and it was okay if he did maybe they felt bad for him. Two more days!!! Brock Day 8 I think the author made Attean come back from hunting a little to early because that seemed to quick to me how about you? I think Matt made the wrong diction. I thought he should have went with Attean on the hunt. I think he will starve in the winter time and want to go with the Indians and his family will never come. I thought the author tried to make the mood of these chapters very sad. Lindsay said that Attean going to hunt is not good idea I think it is because he really wanted to catch his Manitou and it it is a chance to explore. Shane Day 8 I disagree with Brock when he says that the game the Indians played was boring I don’t think it was that smart of Matt to stay home because he could have just wrote a note to them and he could live with the Indians. I agree with Lindsey when she says that it is disrespectful to get mad at him for something he didn’t do. I am surprised the Indians got a gun because they don’t normally whit man stuff. Ryan Day 8 Tyler I agree with you that I think this is a gambling game too because Attean had to give his shirt away to some Indian kid from Attean's tribe. I also agree with you on that Attean's grandmother should give a white person a chance because she doesn't know if they are a bad person or not. I disagree with Tanner's observations that there is no action because when Attean and Matt killed the bear there was some action at that part of the book. I hope Brock is right that Matt won't have any problems while Attean is gone. I am surprised that Matt gave Attean that watch that was so important to him because earlier in the book Matt said that he would keep it safe with HIM. I was also very shocked when Attean called Matt "medabe" or in English "white brother". I can't wait until I finish this book and see what happens next. Jordyn Day 7 I think I like this book better than Hatchet because it is just more interesting to read. I disagree with Tyler, about getting the gun back from Ben. Ben stole it and probably thought Matt was going to come looking for him so he probably is far away. If they find Ben I wouldn’t try to get the gun from him because he has a gun so you never know what somebody can do with it. Lindsey, I really like this book too and sometimes I get the same way where you all of the sudden zone out because it is nothing interesting you want to read. I think Attean is going to come back from where ever he was and be Manitou . Do you think? Jordyn Michael Day 7 Shane i disagree that you said this book is really wierd I think it is inteeresting see what indians act like back then.I wounder if Atteans dad will ever find the people that killed his mom. Why did the indians laugh at Attean, his sister, and grandmother. I think that it was mean that the kids did that to Matt. Why would they even want the shirt? How would Attean not be afraid sleeping in the ocean. Ryan Day 7 Hay Tanner wigwam means a place where Indians live. Or as other people say it is a tepee. I can't really say which book I like better because I didn't even finish this one. So far I am really loving this book because it is a lot like Hatchet and I really liked Hatchet. I thought that it was a funny joke they played on Matt. He lost so he had to give his shirt away. To me I was surprised that his father has not come back home yet. I just hope that his father does come home so he doesn't have to keep thinking that he won't.

Brock Day 7 This book reminds me of blood river because they both have Indians and white man in them. Tyler said Attean and Matt should go take the gun back from Ben. I think they should not because he could shoot them and it probably ran out of gun powder. I thought that game they played a really boring game if I was Matt I would not even have played the game. I feel really bad for that dog that only has three legs that was Attean’s. I hope that Matt will not have any problems while Attean is away. I hope Attean catches his Manitou. Tanner Day 7 I couldnt find any day sixes at the web site so i cant respond just to let you know. Throughout this book I dont like it a lot becasue there is no action at all. I wonder why Matts grand mother is coming. I wonder if Ateens knife is sharp. I think it was nice when the grandma gave them nuts and berries. I think when Ateen trys to find the mosse some thing bad will happen to Matt or Ateen and one of them will die. Lindsay Day 7 I think it's disrespectful that Attean's grandmother doesn't accecpt Matt because of something he didn't do. It was bad how the kids played. It was way too rough and violent for kids their age. I would be terrified and homesick being away, but the way his grandmother looked at Attean he had a reminder of how much his family loves him and cares for him. I'm happy Matt felt accepted because what he's going through he should have someone to be there and support him. I don't think Attean going to hunt is a good idea. Do you? I disagree with Ryan that the author was excited while writing these chapters. I think she was more focused on what happens following the main actions because there is a lot of them. Can't wait for day 8! Shane day 7 I’m surprised Attean’s grandmother trusts Matt because one of his people killed her daughter so he would be almost impossible to trust. I’m also surprised Attean’s dog likes him to. Tanner iron traps are bad for Indians because they make everything by hand and that is a serious mechanism made by machine. I agree with you Michael when you say teaching someone how to read is boring. I don’t think Attean is going to find his spirit. Tyler day 7 I think the circle they played in was supposed to be gambling because Indians invented it right? The dog probably sensed Attean trusted him so he should. Why don't they live by the caribou and moose? Matt thought he was being tested but actually Attean was. I think Attean will find the moose and matt will find his family. Jordyn day 6 I wonder why the Indians just suddenly started inviting Matt to there village. I think the grandmother should at least give Matt a chance or any white person a chance because what happened to Attean's mother. She doesn’t trust white people but some white people are bad and some are very nice and good. I agree with Tyler that Matt and Attean bond the best in the woods because Attean teaches Matt new stuff everyday about either fishing, hunting or something else and because both of them can hunt and both of them help each other out a lot. I think Matt was probably very happy to see Attean smile and not so grumpy. I don’t think Attean is being that mean when he is joking because matt always takes it in a bad way. Jordyn Tyler Day 6 Shane Attean doesn't smile because for an Indian that shows weakness and Attean always watches Matt's back he is like his brother from another mother. Ryan I thought thickheaded meant tough. I read in a book that Indian celebrations usually lasted 2 or 3 hours. I thought Attean was going to carry Matt home not give him a place to stay. Why did the merchants want just the pelts if I were them I would ask for two whole beavers. Why would they do that to a woman it is just wrong.
